From the 10th to the 12th of May the annual international conference “NEW CHALLENGES OF ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT – 2012” is taking place at the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Latvia

The aim of the conference is to discuss results of scientific research in economic and management issues, to establish new contacts and develop research cooperation. The work of the conference is organised in opening plenary session, parallel sessions, poster sessions and concluding plenary session. The conference will be opened by the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Maris Purgailis and the rector of the University of Latvia Marcis Auzins

The keynote speakers of the plenary session on the 11th of May is Professor of Tartu University (Estonia) Tiiu Paas with his paper “Attitudes Toward Immigrants in Europe: how Tolerant are Societies to Diversities as Possible Determinant of Economic Growth”, Proessor Dainora Grundey from Mykolas Romeris University, (Lithuania) with her paper “Small and Medium Business Development in Lithuania: Challenges for Coping with Economic Crisis”, Asoc. professor Signe Bāliņa from the University of Latvia and the President of The Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association) with her paper “Inclusive Information Society in Latvia” and also Professor Baiba Šavriņa from the University of Latvia together with Professor Bernd Hofmann from Universitates Lyon 1 (France) with their report “Comparison between Business Environment in Latvia and France”. The last presentation will be made together with French and Latvian students.

“This is an annual conference, where the latest researches in economics and business are being discussed. I am glad that every year the number of participants is increasing and participants from different countries are coming to Riga. This year 180 participants from 16 different countries have applied for the conference and 140 papers will be presented. For many colleagues from our partner universities this conference has become an annual tradition and is waited with a great excitement” admits the coordinator and the programme committee representative, Professor Biruta Sloka.

The work of the conference will be organised in 9 parallel sessions where papers of different topics will be discussed – business information and social media management, innovation, sustainable development and tourism, public administration, taxation and budget, international economics and globalization, human development and management education, etc.

Conference is organised by Faculty of Economics and Management, University of Latvia in cooperation with Latvian European Community Studies Association, Institut CEDIMES – Lettonie, Econometrists Association of Latvia, Professional Association of Project Managers, Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association, Association of Statisticians of Latvia
