The 11th international scientific conference "New Challenges of Economic and Business Development – 2019: Incentives for Sustainable Economic Growth" organized by the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics (University of Latvia) will take place in Riga (Latviabetween the 16th and 18th of May, 2019.

The conference is devoted to the incentives for economic growth. Effective incentives including business incentives, financial or non-financial benefits, state and local tax incentives etc. can help to stimulate sustainable economic growth of economy. The objective of the conference is to provide a platform/opportunity for scholars, researchers and professionals from different disciplinary backgrounds to meet, exchange ideas and discuss challenges and prospects for economic and business development.

Prof. Dr. Marco J. Menichetti

University of Liechtenstein

Marco Menichetti is a full university professor at the University of Liechtenstein since 2001. He holds the Chair in Business Administration, Banking and Financial Management at the Institute for Finance, the position of the Academic Director of several study programs (MSc in Finance, EMBA in International Asset Management & MBA in Corporate Finance & Accounting) as well as the Chair of the University Senate. Furthermore he is active in accreditation agencies and was Project Coordinator of numerous Erasmus Mobility Projects.


Prior he was Assistant-Professor at the Department of Money and Finance at the University of Trier (GER, 1995 - 2000). He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in International Financial Management at the University of Constance (GER). Marco Menichetti‘s research and teaching expertise includes Corporate Finance, Asset Management, Exchange Rate Risk Management as well as Sustainable Finance. In these fields, he is a popular speaker on conferences. The combination of own practical experience and academic knowledge allows him to serve as a board member, as a management coach and consultant to various institutions. Marco Menichetti profits from a substantial network with many universities and corporations in Europe and Asia.

Prof. Tamar Almor

College of Management Academic Studies

Prof. Tamar Almor is the Dean of the School for Behavioral Sciences and the Dept. of Psychology at the College of Management Academic Studies. Previously, she established and ran the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business Administration where she also served as Vice Dean. Subsequently, she served as Dean of Students for about 12,000 students and in this capacity founded the Centre for Academic Accessibility, established to advance students with special needs, special groups, and people who need extra help and attention to earn a degree. As a result, the College of Management has become one of the leading academic institutions in Israel on accessibility.

Her research focuses on international business strategy and global entrepreneurship, subjects which she teaches at the School of Behavioral Sciences, the School of Business and the School of Design and Innovation. She has more than 25 years of experience in teaching courses and programs in Israel and overseas related to international strategy, global innovation and entrepreneurship. She has taught these subjects as a guest lecturer at several institutions in Singapore, Finland, Norway and the Netherlands. She also works as a consultant and coach for executives at top Israeli and foreign companies.

She publishes extensively in leading journals such as Management International Review, International Business Review, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Research Policy, the Journal of International Management, and Thunderbird International Business Review among others. She has been cited according to Google Citations over 1,400 times. She is a member of various Editorial Boards, including Management International Review, International Journal of Emerging Markets, Competitiveness Review: An International Business Journal, and the Journal of Knowledge Management.

Prof. Tamar Almor earned her Ph.D. at Tel Aviv University in International Business. She has an undergraduate degree in Social Work and a graduate degree in Organizational Behavior.

11:00 Jūrmala Open-Air Museum

This is the largest and the most inviting museum in Jūrmala. Located at the foot of the dune “Ragakāpa”, the Jūrmala Open Air Museum is an attractive way to discover the daily life of fishermen at the turn of the 20th century. Here, you can climb on the decks of two authentic fishing boats and visit authentic houses of fishermen.

13:00 Kristaps Morberg’s Summer Cottage

The house was built around 1883 and belonged to the largest building contractor, the architect and patron Kristaps Morbergs. The summer house is a monument of neogothic wooden architecture. It was expanded and improved up until 1914.

The current owner of the building is the University of Latvia. A tour through the restored property of the building contractor gives information on the history of the summer house, and the talent and the heritage of its owner.
